The challenge
The firebox firebrick on this Braintree fireplace was cracked with eroded, sandy joints, and the smoke chamber above had open gaps that hurt draft and let heat reach the masonry. The homeowner had stopped using it.
The result
We rebuilt the firebox with new firebrick in refractory mortar, parged and smoothed the smoke chamber to close the gaps, and confirmed the flue above with a camera scan. Safe and draft-correct again.
